New Delhi: redBus, the world’s largest online bus ticketing platform, has unveiled its Annual BusTrack Report—a comprehensive data-driven analysis capturing India’s intercity travel trends through private bus operators. As part of this national initiative, redBus has released regional insights focused on Delhi, highlighting the capital’s crucial role as a mobility hub in North India’s expanding intercity bus ecosystem.

According to the report, the Financial Year 2025 saw Delhi register a significant 45% year-on-year growth in online bus ticket bookings. This surge not only signals an increasing reliance on digital platforms for intercity travel among Delhi residents but also reaffirms the city’s strategic importance in the northern bus travel corridor. With millions of data points consolidated from April 2024 to March 2025, the BusTrack Report provides a window into the changing dynamics of public mobility—underscoring how convenience, comfort, and connectivity are redefining the bus travel experience across the region.

The report identifies the most frequented intercity routes originating from Delhi, with destinations such as Manali, Lucknow, Dehradun, and Rishikesh emerging as top choices. These routes, reflecting a blend of leisure, work-related, and pilgrimage-driven travel, underline the diversity of Delhi’s commuter base and its connection to key economic and cultural centers in North India.

One of the standout observations in this year’s analysis is the booking behavior of Delhi travellers. A substantial 54% of users made same-day bookings, while 39% booked their tickets one to seven days in advance. This pattern reflects a high-frequency, commuter-heavy travel culture in Delhi, where flexibility and immediate travel options are crucial for urban dwellers managing dynamic work and personal schedules.

Further emphasizing the scale of digital adoption, the report highlights that bookings from Delhi more than doubled compared to the previous year. This exponential rise indicates the growing comfort and trust among users in using online platforms like redBus for their travel needs. Popular boarding points within the city—such as ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Akshardham, and the AIIMS Metro station—continue to serve as critical junctions for bus travellers, acting as gateways to destinations across the northern belt.

Another key trend spotlighted in the report is the strong weekday travel preference among Delhi commuters. Approximately 70% of trips originated on weekdays, underscoring the city’s role as a center of essential and work-related travel. This trend is consistent with Delhi’s status as a major employment and service hub, where intercity travel is often a necessity tied to economic activity.

Comfort was also a prominent factor in consumer preferences, with Sleeper buses accounting for 54% of total bookings. This preference, especially on longer routes, indicates an evolving demand for more comfortable and restful travel experiences, even on overnight or extended journeys.

Commenting on the findings, Pallavi Chopra, Chief Marketing Officer at redBus, said, “Delhi continues to lead as a critical hub for intercity travel in the North. What’s striking is the rise in digitally booked routes from smaller, hyperlocal nodes—underscoring how convenience, comfort, and connectivity are reshaping bus travel even in traditional markets.”

The Annual BusTrack Report by redBus not only sheds light on shifting patterns in travel behavior but also illustrates the ongoing transformation of India’s mobility landscape—driven by technology, changing consumer expectations, and an increasing emphasis on digital-first travel solutions.
