ChargeZone, Fresh Bus to add 400 electric buses to charging network

New Delhi: ChargeZone and all-electric inter-city bus service provider Fresh Bus on Wednesday announced an expansion of their existing partnership under which the latter will deploy an additional 400 electric buses on ChargeZone’s charging network.

With the expansion, the Fresh Bus fleet supported by ChargeZone’s charging infrastructure will increase from 100 to 500 buses. The expanded network will connect 20 cities and cover 17 additional towns across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over the next 15 months.

To support the larger fleet, ChargeZone will deploy 30 MW of new charging capacity in addition to the existing 10 MW dedicated infrastructure for the Fresh Bus network, taking the total deployed capacity to 40 MW.

The expansion is part of ChargeZone’s broader plan to add 200 MW of charging capacity across its national network.

At full scale, the partnership is expected to deliver around 100 million units of energy annually, support more than 20,000 passenger journeys per day and reduce an estimated 9,000-10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year.

“India’s EV transition will not be driven by personal vehicles alone. Commercial mobility, particularly intercity public transport, can play a critical role in taking electrification to scale,” ChargeZone Founder and CEO Kartikey Hariyani said.

He said the partnership has demonstrated that charging capacity, uptime and energy availability designed around fleet operations can help operators scale electric mobility with greater confidence.

Fresh Bus Founder Sudhakar Reddy said the reliability of the charging network had enabled the company to move from proving its electric inter-city bus model to expanding it.

“Expanding to 500 buses and 40 MW of dedicated charging capacity is not just a fleet decision; it’s a statement that electric intercity travel can be dependable, affordable and ready for passengers,” he said.

ChargeZone, which operates more than 15,000 charging points across over 1,200 locations in India and the UAE, said it supports the transition to electric mobility across passenger and commercial vehicle segments.

The company partners with automotive manufacturers including Tata.ev, Hyundai, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and VinFast for charging infrastructure.
