SML Mahindra races ahead with 102% November jump

New Delhi: SML Mahindra delivered a standout performance in November, posting a 102 percent jump in monthly sales and lifting market sentiment around the newly rebranded commercial vehicle maker. The company, formerly known as SML Isuzu, reported total sales of 1,087 units for November, up from 539 units in the same month last year.

The surge was driven by strong traction across both cargo and passenger vehicle segments. Cargo vehicle sales rose to 429 units, an increase of 83 percent over last year’s 235 units. Passenger vehicles performed even better, climbing 116 percent to 658 units compared with 304 units a year ago. The numbers reflect renewed momentum in the company’s commercial vehicle portfolio at a time when the broader CV market is showing early signs of recovery.

The encouraging sales print comes just months after Mahindra & Mahindra acquired a 58.96 percent controlling stake in SML Isuzu from Sumitomo Corporation and Isuzu Motors for Rs 555 crore. The board approved the renaming of the company to SML Mahindra on August 19, marking a strategic shift as M&M aims to strengthen its presence in the above 3.5-tonne commercial vehicle segment. M&M has also indicated its intention to make an open offer for an additional 26 percent stake, in line with SEBI’s takeover norms.

Despite the strong November performance, the company’s recent quarterly earnings paint a more mixed picture. Standalone net profit for Q2 FY26 declined 3.44 percent to Rs 21.05 crore, even though revenue from operations saw a modest 0.98 percent rise to Rs 555.11 crore compared to the same quarter last year. Market watchers believe the November sales spike could signal improving operating conditions, but they note that sustained performance over the coming months will be key to assessing the company’s longer-term trajectory.

For now, the bumper sales numbers have provided SML Mahindra with a notable boost, reinforcing expectations that the company’s strategic realignment under the Mahindra banner may unlock stronger growth in the commercial vehicle space.
