Azad India Mobility Electric Bus crosses 1 Lakh Km, signals scale-up push

New Delhi: Azad India Mobility Limited has marked a significant milestone in its electric mobility journey, with one of its 12.5-metre electric buses deployed in inter-city operations completing an aggregate on-road run of 1,00,000 kilometres.

The company said the achievement underscores the robustness of its electric bus platform and reflects the expanding operational footprint of its zero-emission fleet. It also points to growing passenger acceptance of electric buses for inter-city travel, a segment traditionally dominated by diesel-powered vehicles.

According to Azad India Mobility, the bus completed the entire distance with zero tailpipe emissions, helping reduce urban pollution and lowering dependence on fossil fuels compared to conventional diesel buses. Operating data from the vehicle indicate improved ride comfort, reduced noise levels and enhanced reliability, factors that have contributed to a better overall passenger experience.

Buoyed by this performance, the company is now looking to significantly expand its electric bus operations. It has set a target to cumulatively achieve 1,00,000 electric bus kilometres per day across its fleet over the next year. The company noted that this plan is subject to route allocations, passenger demand and the timely commissioning of additional vehicles.

The expansion strategy aligns with ongoing national and state-level initiatives aimed at accelerating electric mobility and increasing the share of zero-emission buses in both public and inter-city transportation networks. Industry observers see such milestones as critical in building confidence around electric buses, particularly in demanding inter-city operations where vehicle range, reliability and uptime are key concerns.

Azad India Mobility said it remains focused on sustained investments in electric buses, charging infrastructure and the broader supporting ecosystem. The company believes these efforts will create long-term value for stakeholders while supporting India’s climate goals and energy security objectives.
