New Delhi: Blackbuck EV is set to unveil its ELON 3X 15-metre multi-axle electric sleeper coach, marking a significant step in the company’s efforts to expand electric mobility solutions in India’s premium intercity passenger transport segment.
The upcoming coach has been developed as a purpose-built electric platform designed to cater to long-distance operations, a category traditionally dominated by diesel-powered vehicles. The company said the ELON 3X has been engineered to combine energy efficiency, lightweight construction, passenger comfort, highway stability, safety and lower total cost of ownership for fleet operators.
According to Blackbuck EV, the development of the platform began in 2022 with the objective of creating a born-electric multi-axle coach capable of meeting the requirements of India’s long-haul bus industry while aligning with international standards. The first prototype, christened ELON 3X Alpha, emerged in 2024 and subsequently underwent nearly two years of testing, validation and refinement across diverse operating conditions on Indian roads.
The company said the extensive testing programme focused on improving vehicle efficiency, ride quality, operational reliability, safety performance and service support, with feedback from real-world operations helping shape the final product.
“The ELON 3X is the result of difficult decisions — to wait, to test, and to keep improving until the platform reached the maturity this segment deserves,” Blackbuck EV Chief Executive Officer R K Raju said in a post on LinkedIn.
The 15-metre multi-axle configuration is among the most widely used formats for premium overnight and long-distance travel in India, carrying millions of passengers annually across key intercity routes. Blackbuck EV believes electrification of this segment can play a major role in reducing emissions while offering operators improved operating economics.
The company said the ELON 3X platform has also been developed with export potential in mind, reflecting its ambition to build globally competitive electric coaches in India for international markets.
With the unveiling expected soon, the company aims to position the ELON 3X as a next-generation electric alternative for premium sleeper coach operators seeking sustainable long-distance mobility solutions.
