Mumbai: In a major push towards eco-friendly urban transportation, PMI Electro Mobility’s Mumbadevi Mobility, in association with the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST), introduced 122 new electric buses for the city recently. The new induction is the second batch under the BEST–PMI partnership and brings the city a step nearer to its dream of a cleaner and more efficient public transport network.
The flag-off ceremony took place at the BEST Office, Colaba Depot, and was attended by Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, as Chief Guest, and Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Other dignitaries on the occasion were Adv. Ashish Shelar, Minister for Information and Technology, BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, IAS, and Dr. Sonia Sethi, IAS, General Manager, BEST.
This deployment marks the continuation of an ambitious plan to introduce a total of 250 electric buses in Mumbai, with today’s flagging off of 122 buses further strengthening the city’s public transport network and supporting its transition to cleaner, greener mobility. To ensure seamless operations, Oshiwara–Goregaon Depot is energized and 15 high-capacity chargers have been installed enabling efficient overnight charging and supporting the smooth daily functioning of the e-bus fleet.

The new 12-metre electric buses, designed and manufactured by PMI Electro Mobility, seamlessly blend passenger comfort with environmental sustainability. Each bus accommodates 36 passengers plus the driver and includes wheelchair access along with three foldable seats for added flexibility. The low-floor design (400 mm) ensures convenient boarding for senior citizens and differently-abled passengers. Powered by a 366.66 kWh LFP battery, these buses can travel up to 300 km on a single charge, making them perfectly suited for Mumbai’s daily urban routes. The PMSM motor system delivers smooth and efficient performance, while advanced onboard accessibility and safety features enhance the overall travel experience.
Dr. Aanchal Jain, CEO of PMI Electro Mobility, said, “It fills me with pride to see these electric buses on Mumbai’s roads, knowing that each journey they make contributes to a cleaner, healthier city. From the low-floor design that eases boarding for all passengers to the advanced battery system enabling long, smooth rides, every detail reflects our commitment to people and the environment. We are grateful to BEST for trusting us to be part of this journey, and we remain dedicated to supporting Mumbai’s vision for sustainable and inclusive mobility.
Keeping our promise and seeing another 122 electric buses join Mumbai’s streets fills my heart with joy. It’s a true reflection of what we can achieve when vision, dedication, and collaboration come together. I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in us, and these buses are a reminder of our shared journey toward building cleaner, more inclusive, and sustainable public transport for the city and its people.”
